I had to comment on the Kushboo controversy........

A Tamil actress Kushboo was literally ostracized for saying that an educated man should not expect his wife to be a virgin. She also said that premarital sex is quite rampant today and the least people could do was to have protection.

What was wrong with this statement?

Sadly Indians are in a horrible state of denial when it comes to sex. How is our population the second largest population in the world? Only through the so called "Purity of wedlock" did a billion people come into existence? Think people, THINK ( oh my god, maybe this is a sign, 'denial twist' by the White Stripes just aired on VH1, music speaks to me!). God has given you a brain, maybe just maybe, use a little logic, if our population is bursting at the seams and we have the second largest number of AIDS cases in the world, then the answer is a big fat YES, PEOPLE ARE HAVING SEX, PREMARITAL, EXTRAMARITAL WHATEVER, YOU NAME IT, that's what people are doing. Why don't Indians want to accept this? Do babies rain from the sky? Do people get AIDS in an honest marriage? Sadly that's the yarn which Indian people have spun for themselves and don't want to escape from.

The politicians who made this a big deal, should think for a moment, just for a moment and the answer will be clear to them, it takes two to have sex. AIDS, teenage pregnancies, STDS and other REAL problems in our society are not contracted by a man having sex with himself, he has sex with a WOMAN. Simple, dear politicians and self proclaimed "culture police", just use the most important organ in your body, your BRAIN. These so called politicians are the biggest hypocrites, having numerous wives and mistresses, indulging in open goondaism, and prompt colleges to adopt a strict dress code to uphold the "culture" of our nation all in a days work! Culture sadly has become a convenient excuse for these politicians who don't know anything about our culture in the first place. Our "culture" gave the world Kamasutra and openly celebrated sex and sexuality with erotic images in temples like Kajuraho. Hinduism is one of the very few religions which accept sex and sexuality as part of life. Maybe these politicians should read up on our culture, oh wait, most of them are UNEDUCATED.

Kushboo should be thanked for using her star status for trying to give advice with an iota of sense, unlike the so called 'macho' heroes in our movies who openly categorize women as either sanctimonious virgins or filthy prostitutes, while prancing around with a bunch of women themselves.

I can go on and on, but I'm going to stop with this: Indians should learn to accept this reality, I'm saying ACCEPT not know this reality, because Indians do know, but have created a reality for themselves, a reality based on make-believe "culture", a reality where babies fall from skies and AIDS is spontaneously generated in the body.

Of all the posts that I was able to read here, I like this one and your "no-nonsense" approach to the case. But sadly, there is much more to this case than mere moral policing.

I agree there is lots of that BullS**t there, but it is more than just that. It is more to do with a women telling it, a women who made a certain guy called "Thangar Bachchan"(guess, u know him) swallow his ludicurous comments and his ire for her doing that...sadly, it might have morphed into a caste issue, when the Karunanidhi made an even more silly comment that Suhasini(being a Brahmin) spoke in defence of Kushboo, coz she is a brahmin and that it is time to start an anti-brahmin crusade in TN....There is lot of such silly, sickening, ridiculous self illusioned homo saphiens roaming about the country in TN!

I know......I kinda knew this was completely political driven and I also knew about the Thankar Bachchan case, but when I qrote this blog I was completely riled up after arguing for two hours with some of my tamil friends from Univ. so I had to post:)
As for Karunanidhi trying to start an anti-brahmin crusade, Im tounge tied. I cant even begin to comprehend the ridiculousness of this statement. Words fail me..............

Both Kushboo & Suhasini attended Kartu's marriage & I had a brief chat on this topic with them. we all agreed that Promiscuity is rampant in south india & more so in Chennai. I assured them that polititians are just blowing hot air & there is genuine need to preach safe sex. Both have done yeomen service in taking bull by the horn in initiating the discussion amongst several interest groups. The taboo & double standards resisting frank talks on the subject are falling apart.

Thats good to know......its about time the horrific double standards are obliterated and there are open, prejudice free talks on this subject.

hey great job on the kushboo controversy but theres a more humorous side to the whole scandal which may not have been noticed!! well what really happ was more a fight between 2 major TV channels..!! sun tv and jaya tv.. there has always been a sorta war between these 2 rival channes.. (btw run by 2 rival political parties)and its only natural that sun tv got lucky with kushboo's ( who btw happens to hosts a tv show in jaya )soo called disgraceful comment.. whats u'd only see sun tv making this rather small issue into a controversy(blaming kushboo for everythin)... while all the other channels were talking abt how this this issue was more politicaly motivated to try an improve their chances in the upcoming elections

Thes great moral police politicians come directly from prostitutes' place, and trying to sanitize Tamil Nadu. And this karunanidhi is a total non-sense, I wonder how come Kanimozhi is his daugher..! She is having some good thoughts to share with fellow human beings in TN. But the sad thing there is that the only magazine which publishes "all" what she said was "kaalachuvadu" which is an amazing effort but has very less readers..!

TN is such a bad position now.. Still good girl means girl in a saree, malayalam movie means adult movie, intelectual means political gangster, educated means engineering or medicine... I am not able to write about some of the other things here..

Badly worried about the condition of TN.. with all the educated people like us, can't we do something to make our place a better place to live ?

I agree completely...and on top of that moral policing on dress code and cell phones and stupid ridiculous things which are not even issues. What about the AIDS cases? Tamilnadu has become a champion in backward thinking, unecessary moral policing and for the maximum number of AIDS cases in India. wondderful. This is what we need now.....

When one of my friends casually mentioned that he does not expect his future wife to be a virgin, most of the other guys could not say with conviction that they agree with him. But I did.
The point is all these guys were highly educated (I dont say education makes a person better) and still our education has not taught anything abt sex, marriage or life.
when they banned cellphones, tshirts and jeans in my almamater (Anna University), I felt sad. What kind of examples are we setting to our younger generation? I cant even imagine me wearing formals everyday to college in the blistering heat of chennai. Recently 5 guys were suspended becaue porn cds were found int heir roos. In that case, the whole college should have been suspended because everybody would have watched porn at some point.
Here I declare : Sex is not a sin. And guys abd gals, please have protection when you have sex..it protects you and your partner..

moral policing..at the cost of your basic frredom and human rights..! Great going Tamil Nadu.. !!

There was a slightest irritatted thought in my mind asking, Why there is no law for protecting individual freedom in india? Apart from the non-functional basic rights amemndment..

Now I am convinced that the issues TN is facing now are deeper than and far from the reach of law of even God..!It is the attitude of TN people that needs change..(That includes even mine.. if I have a crazy attitude towards human freedom)..!

Whether you are the ancient and precious culture of which the identity shouldbe preserved or not, why don't we Tamil people accept everybody as HUMAN first..?

There is a saying, " If you take everything away from me, what the hell you have now to manage me?"

Will the *TAMIL kaavalarhal* understand this ever?

Please God.. don't commit suicide...!
